ISRAEL 2023
Explaining the current crisis
(And other Israeli topics)
In-person or Zoom talks & lectures
Coming out at the age of 15 in a conservative Israeli suburb of Haifa, years before the LGBTQ community became a prominent part of nearly all Israeli families, I developed a solid political backbone, strongly influenced by a mix of my sexual identity together with my Jewish-Israeli one, shaped by the insights of my Ukraine & Belarus born Holocaust Survivors grandmothers, as well as my parents who were USSR "Refusniks" in the 1970's (freed much thanks to the American Jewish-led "Let My People Go" Campaign).
As a grown Israeli man, with years of experience in the Israeli Public & Civil sectors as an advisor to Ministers and Parliament Members on LGBTQ issues and Holocaust Survivors compansational policies, as well as a civil rights lawyer, board director in Israeli LGBTQ NGO's, an openly-out IDF combat commander and an academic expert on theory of discrimination, I developed a unique perspective and expertise in explaining Israeli culture, politics, law and society to non Israelis.
Thanks to this history of mine, together with my own path as gay child, son, student, soldier, activist and public servant I see a crystal-clear similarity between the history of Jewish minorities in the diaspora and the LGBTQ minority in Israel. Once hated and scapegoated by their sorrounding majority, then emancipated and excelled in all positions and nowadyas suffering from 21st century reactionary Antisemitism around the world And Homophobia inside Israel led by its current, new government, Both Jews outside of Israel and LGBTQ people inside it are currently asking themselves whether History isn't as linear as they thought it to be.
